A Little Bit Of Fame

Symphony made it on national TV!

Symphony finally made it on TV!

After receiving a phone call from Leslie-Anne of Thomas Cook Beach Villa Holidays, we were visited by a film crew from GMTV. So, on balmy Saturday, we set sail on our normal route, making the TV presenter, Jenny Faulkner (seen with Debbie on the bows, entering Kalami Bay) work as hard as is possible on Symphony. I would never have believed how good those television camera’s were until I saw some of the playbacks on the camera. We had been about a quarter of a mile off the beach, and had been asked to turn towards the beach, hoisting the main and jib as we did so. No problem. I shouted at Debbie to turn left and head for the dock, and hurled abuse at Jenny, to stop loafing about and get her body weight behind the halyard. All of this came out clear as daylight, as we later found out Jenny was wired for sound, but for the life of me I could not see where she could have hidden it. Debbie found out later during a chat on the bow. Costa put on his usual "typical Greek Mezedes", then off we went for a sail again. Fortunately Aeolus was with us and we had a variety of sails up, running, reaching, gybing, tacking. Pictures from the boat, then filmed from the headland above Kalhura Bay. We thought the poor girl's arms were going to fall off.

Keep your eyes open, as it may be screened again this winter. It is being shown on various ITV travel programmes. If you saw it and thought it was good or bad, please tell us so we can rectify any faults before April. See you all next year hopefully!!

Lunch, The Choices!!

As usual, we have a choice of lunch-time stops, with somewhere good to relax and eat. We will still be going to Agios Stefanos and Costa Kaparelli's restaurant, which was named in last years new travel guide, "A Taste Of A Place". We have always liked this place because it is tucked away nicely on the North East tip of the island. A pleasant Greek fishing village rin a beautiful setting, surrounded by the low, green hills, off the beaten track, so only a few vehicles pass through it. Lots of people like it for a relaxing stroll after lunch, looking through the knick-knack shops for some eally good bargains, much cheaper than the mainstream holiday places.

Also named in A Taste Of A Place is Taverna Agni, run by Nathan and Eleni Pascoe. This has always been one of our favourite lunch stops in the past. It was where we started out in 1998. It is still a family run taverna, with Dad (Harilas) going in to town to buy fresh fruit and vegetables at 5am and Mum (Aphrodite) helping out Eleni in the kitchen when she is not playing with grand-daughter Aphrodite. That leaves Theo, who goes fishing in the evening and early morning, before joining Nathan "front-of-house", to make the lunchtime mezze a gastronomical delight, whatever your tastes in food. A beautiful setting in a quiet bay, no motor traffic apart from the occasional boat arriving at the dock, and a nice beach to let the kids play on after lunch. It would probably have had a blue flag, but the bay is so small there was no room on the beach for a changing room and lifeguard tower. Check out the web-cam for actual view.
